How to apply

Applications for Legal Aid WA Panels and Lists can be submitted at any time through the Panel and List Application Portal.

  • Current panel/list members applying for additional memberships will have their applications assessed as soon as possible.
  • New applicants require clearance from the Legal Practice Board of WA and can generally expect an outcome of 4 weeks.
  • Applications for the following are considered by a Selection Committee and may take 4–6 weeks:
    • Crime – Murder Panel
    • Crime – Appeals Panel
    • Independent Children’s Lawyer List
    • Child Representative List

Note: Applications for the Dispute Resolution Chairperson (Children’s Matters) and Dispute Resolution Chairperson (Property Settlement) Lists are not currently accepted through the portal and must be submitted by email to panelapplications@legalaid.wa.gov.au.

Preparing Your Application
Before applying, please review the relevant FAQs, information sheets, eligibility requirements, and mandatory training requirements.

Your application must include:
•    Evidence demonstrating that you meet the applicable eligibility criteria.
•    Any additional information you would like Legal Aid WA to consider.
•    Completion of the required training modules for the panel or list you are applying for.

Additional Requirements for Legal Practitioners
Legal practitioners must also provide:
•    A current practising certificate issued by the Legal Practice Board of WA.
•    A signed Legal Aid WA Professional Services Agreement.
•    A signed Panel Supervision Agreement (if applicable).

Disclosure of Regulatory Information
Applicants are not required to provide a signed LPBWA Consent Form. The Legal Practice Board of WA may disclose relevant information directly to Legal Aid WA in accordance with section 247(c) of the Legal Profession Uniform Law Application Act 2022 and regulation 71(d) of the Legal Profession Uniform Law Application Regulations 2022.

Application Outcomes
Applications are processed by Legal Aid WA’s Standards and Engagement team. Applicants will be notified of the outcome in writing. Successful applicants will receive a welcome email, Membership Notice, and further information about panel or list membership.
