Get help resolving family law disputes
Legal Aid WA has the following services to help people resolve family law disputes:
- appointments for legal advice about making arrangements for children and property settlement
- a secure online platform amica, to help people reach agreement about arrangements for children and dividing property following separation, and
- our Dispute Resolution service, to help people resolve disagreements about parenting and property settlements.
Call the Infoline on 1300 650 579 for information about the law, to ask about our services and to find out how we can help you. First Nations callers can phone Legal Yarn on 1800 319 803 to access a culturally safe telephone information service for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People; staffed by mob, for mob. The Infoline and Legal Yarn are open Monday to Friday from 9.00am to 4.00pm (Western Standard Time), except on public holidays. Please let us know if you need an interpreter.
Legal Aid WA also has a network of virtual offices in local community agencies across the state which can provide advice about family law matters. To make an appointment to see a lawyer using the virtual office service call the Infoline or Legal Yarn or go to one of our partner agencies and ask a member of staff to get in touch with us.
Many community legal centres offer services for people to resolve family law disputes.
amica
amica is a secure online platform that empowers amicable separating couples to reach agreements using artificial intelligence. It is funded by the Australian Government.
You can use amica to make arrangements about parenting, divide your money and property fairly (amica’s smart technology can make fair suggestions for you), and create simple, clear written agreements to keep a record of what you have agreed for low costs
amica is suitable for separated couples who are reasonably amicable, and whose situation is not complex.
Where else can I get legal help with my family law dispute?

Family Relationship Centres - provide information and support to separating families including education sessions and Family Dispute Resolution to assist with reaching an agreement about parenting arrangements. You can find the location of your nearest Centre by calling the Family Relationship Advice Line on 1800 050 321 (Monday to Friday from 8.00am to 8.00pm and Saturday from 10.00am to 4.00pm) or by searching online here.

Centrecare WA 08 9325 6644 - a range of separation services including counselling, family violence services, supervision services and Family Dispute Resolution. Services are provided in the Perth metropolitan area and to communities in WA’s Goldfields and South West regional areas.

You can use the Family Dispute Resolution Register to find a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner. Please note that private Family Dispute Resolution Practitioners usually charge a fee for their services. You should check their rates before you start.

Community Legal Centres and private practitioners may be able to provide legal advice and help you to negotiate with the other person.
