Law Week 2025

Law Week 19-23 MayLaw Week is an annual celebration of the legal profession and the community it serves. At Legal Aid WA we celebrate Law Week with events and activities for the community, organisations across the legal sector, partners, allied professionals, and importantly, for our staff.

With a focus on Justice, Connection and Community, Law Week highlights issues affecting access to justice, and actively build community awareness and understanding of the law, the legal system and the legal profession.

Our program of events is set out below - check out what’s on offer and register to get involved!

Monday 19 May: Our Law Week Video Challenge for young people in Western Australia launches. Build your legal literacy and flex those creative skills to make a one-minute video on something from our R U Legal? Program. More information (and prize details!) can be found here.

Monday 19 May: A staff event will bring together Legal Aid WA teams from across the State to acknowledge and celebrate Law Week 2025.

Tuesday 20 May: Legal Aid WA is proudly participating in the Law Access Walk for Justice charity event in Perth. We will be led by our Director Helen De Brito, who is an ambassador for the event.

Tuesday 20 May: Over the lunch hour our civil law experts will be onsite at Holy Grounds in Perth, ready to answer your civil law questions over a coffee. More information and register here.

Wednesday 21 May: We will be joining service providers in Lathlain at the Aboriginal Justice Open Day, providing on the spot “legal health checks”, listening to legal problems and sharing legal information. Click here for more details for Wednesday.

Wednesday 21 May: Service providers, Community Legal Centres, government departments and other organisations in the Goldfields region are invited to our office in Kalgoorlie for an information session “Legal Aid WA – how we help”. If this is relevant for your organisation, register here. 

Wednesday 21 May: Oncall interpreters will be dialling in to provide a lunch and learn professional development opportunity for Legal Aid WA staff, detailing how we can best work with interpreters and translators to secure positive outcomes for their clients.

Wednesday 21 May: A regular feature of our annual Law week programme, a criminal lawyer from our Community Legal Education team will deliver a public webinar “R U Legal? webinar for parents, caregivers and educators. This is essential information for all adults with young people in their lives. More info and register here.

Thursday 22 May: We are holding an internal training session for staff covering aspects of our NDIS Appeals team work, including an overview of the practice area, the types of matters they can assist with, and mapping the client journey.

Thursday 22 May: We’re honoured to have Hon Chief Judge Julie Wager and Stephen McGrath host a one-hour online training session for members of our Panels and Lists, Legal Aid WA staff and partner organisations “Ethically Conducting your Criminal Law Practice”. 

Friday 23 May: our Great Southern regional office, together with Great Southern Community Legal Service are co- hosting a special Law Week networking event for the legal sector and allied professionals in the Great Southern region. 

Friday 23 May: Service providers, Community Legal Centres, government departments and other organisations in the East Kimberley region are invited to our office in Kununurra for an information session “Legal Aid WA – how we help”. If this is relevant for your organisation, register here
