Legal Aid WA is the public face of the Legal Aid Commission of Western Australia.
The Legal Aid Commission of WA is an independent statutory body that started in 1978, as the first dedicated legal aid commission in Australia. We are now the largest single provider of legal aid services in Western Australia, employing nearly 300 lawyers and support staff in 9 offices across WA.
The Legal Aid WA is managed by a Board of Commissioners, who are appointed by the Governor of Western Australia. The Director of Legal Aid WA is appointed by the Governor, on the recommendation of the Commission. The Director is responsible for the day-to-day management of Legal Aid WA, and is supported by the head of each Division.
