An extensive collaboration between Legal Aid WA, Community Legal WA, Law Access and for series one Circle Green Community Legal, Redgum Justice (previously called Gosnells Community Legal Centre), Great Southern Community Legal Service and Northern Suburbs Community Legal Centre, Law Talk WA is a podcast for West Australians that deep dives into important legal issues being faced by communities across our state.

Each episode features conversations with a panel of experts who share their knowledge and expertise of a particular topic covering criminal, civil and family law matters, with relevant, helpful and practical tips along the way.

Host of series one Heidi Stewart, a senior family lawyer at Legal Aid WA, said Separation: Navigating the road ahead will be a useful tool for people dealing with separation, as it combines a range of perspectives from legal, financial and social support experts in WA.

“Families that are going through separation face huge life changes and in the process, need to make a number of major decisions.

This podcast is designed to help individuals figure out where to begin, what options are available and how to access support and legal services. We cover some of the most serious considerations, such as making plans for children, decisions around property, and what tools are available to separate safely in situations where family violence has been present.

The breadth of expertise that we have across our Law Talk WA panel experts means that we can provide some really valuable insights and important information for people navigating separation.”

Separation: Navigating the road ahead will be available from 8am on Monday 13 May, with a new episode released each day that week. The final “bonus” episode on Saturday will explain how the recent changes in federal family law simplify the legal pathway and keep the best interests of children at the core.

Series two of Law Talk WA Renter rights in a housing crisis is due to be released later this year, with plans to produce further topical series in the future.
