Car accidents

After an accident, there can be a few things to think about, including notifying the police and dealing with damage to cars, vehicles and other property.

If you have been involved in a car (or motor bike) accident, you need to know what things you need to do, and what your rights are when dealing with other drivers or insurers.

It can be important to get advice about who was to blame for the accident (at fault), because the person at fault is responsible to pay for all the damage.

This section has information about what to do after a car accident. Find out:

  • What do I legally have to do after a car accident?
  • What information do I need to get at the scene of the accident?
  • Do I have to report the accident to the police or my insurer?
  • Who pays the cost of repairs?

If you are impacted by the regional court closures between 1 June and 28 August and you don’t think you can attend court in person, it’s important to let the court know.

Your lawyer or Legal Aid WA can help you do this.
