NAIDOC week is a time to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements.
It is also an opportunity to recognise the contributions that Indigenous Australians make to our country and our society. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life.
NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. The national NAIDOC theme this year is Heal Country, heal our nation.
Healing Country means finally resolving many of the outstanding injustices which impact on the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
It must be a fair and equitable resolution. To Heal Country, we must properly work towards redressing historical injustice.
