How to apply

Applications to join Legal Aid WA’s Panels and Lists can be lodged at any time through our Panel and List Application Portal.
 
For current panel or list members wishing to apply for additional panels or lists, your applications will be assessed as soon as possible. 

New panel members require clearances from the Legal Practice Board of WA. You should expect to have an outcome from Legal Aid WA in approximately 4 weeks. 
 
The following panels and lists are considered by a Selection Committee:

  • Crime - Murder Panel
  • Crime - Appeals Panel
  • Independent Children’s Lawyer List
  • Child Representative List

Decisions on these applications may take approximately 4-6 weeks.

Please note that applications for the Dispute Resolution Chairperson (Children’s matters) List and the Dispute Resolution Chairperson (Property Settlement) List are not currently accepted via the Panel and List Application Portal. To submit an application for one of these lists, please email panelapplications@legalaid.wa.gov.au.

Required training

The eligibility criteria for Legal Aid WA's Panels and Lists includes the completion of training modules available through Train-N-Track. Details of the mandatory modules for each panel and list can be found under Training for applicants

Please note that applicants are no longer required to provide a signed LPBWA Consent Form because the Legal Practice Board of WA can disclose information to Legal Aid WA in accordance with section 247(c) of the Legal Profession Uniform Law Application Act 2022 and regulation 71(d) of the Legal Profession Uniform Law Application Regulations 2022.

Processing your application

Applications for membership are processed by Legal Aid WA’s Professional Standards and Integrity unit. You will be notified of the outcome of your application in writing. If you are successful, you will receive a welcome email with your Membership Notice and further information regarding membership of Legal Aid WA's panels and lists.

Applications for membership can only be made online and will not be accepted by email.

If you are impacted by the regional court closures between 1 June and 3 August and you don’t think you can attend court in person, it’s important to let the court know.
