Welcome to Leavers 2023!

Firstly, we’d like to say a huge congratulations to the class of 2023, many of whom are likely heading away for the next few days to celebrate Leavers. Understanding your rights and responsibilities while you’re away, will help you stay safe and avoid getting into trouble with the law.

If you’re thinking of drinking, remember that it’s illegal to buy alcohol, or have alcohol with you in a public place if you’re under 18. It’s also illegal to drink alcohol in a public place, no matter how old you are.

Despite the week being about celebrations, we know that sometimes fights happen – but did you know you can get into trouble with the law even if you’re not the one throwing punches? If you egg the involved parties on or film someone under 18 being injured, you may also be committing an offence.

If you find yourself in trouble with the Police, remember that you must give them your correct name, address and date of birth. Be polite and ask to speak to a lawyer before answering any other questions, or before proceeding with an interview.

To make it easier for you to party, while still obeying the law, we have a number of resources available covering a bunch of relevant topics. Whether you need information on how to deal with Police, driving, or drugs and alcohol, our R U Legal? Resource page is a hive of info.
