Indigenous Law Student Program

Indigenous Law Student Program

Legal Aid WA offers a Law Student program specifically aimed at Indigenous law students.

The aim of the program is to provide Indigenous law students with the opportunity to perform voluntary work at Legal Aid WA. This helps to gain an understanding of the work of Legal Aid WA and enhance longer term opportunities, such as intern placements. Students work with lawyers to develop their legal skills and gain insight into the legal system.

Structure of the program

Students participating in the program will attend Legal Aid WA once each week at a mutually convenient time over a period of 8 weeks during the university semester. Attendance times can be flexible based on students' preference. Students can gain experience working in the following Legal Aid WA sections:

  • Criminal Law
  • Client Services
  • Family Law, including family violence and dispute resolution
  • regional services and delivery.

While undertaking the voluntary work program, each student will have a supervising solicitor who will be responsible for organising the tasks for the student undergoing work experience.

Expressions of interest

Applications for the program will be accepted at any time.  Please send your application to or by post to:
