The Legal Advice and Information Line

Our Legal Advice and Information Line provides a range of legal information and advice to the general public. The aim of the service is to resolve client problems at first point of contact by providing a range of services including:

• Providing legal information to clients on areas of law relevant to their enquiry.
• Assisting clients further with their legal issues by providing them with relevant additional information sheets, booklets and/or Legal Aid Application Forms.
• Booking appointments Statewide, for Legal Advice or Minor Assistance.
• Providing information about other Legal Aid services that are available to assist clients.
• Providing referrals to other appropriate Agencies.

The position of Information Line Adviser can be highly demanding. Our Advisers deal with callers who can be in situations that cause them to be emotional and difficult to communicate with.

We have found that Law Students, with their genuine interest in legal issues and knowledge of legal frameworks in Western Australia, can be the ideal recruits to these positions.

Ongoing Training and Support

We support new recruits through the steep learning curve attached to the role of Advisor by providing an initial intensive training program, as well as ongoing on the job support and guidance.

Hours of Work

Our Legal Advice and Information Line is staffed by approximately 10 staff at any one time. Advisers generally work two or three shifts per week. Shifts are 4 hours long and run from either 8.30am - 12.30pm or from 12.30 - 4.30pm.
